i sculpt and i know what you mean about getting the proportions just right its tricky eh?
ive just tried to sculpt a head from start to finish it was a total nightmare
Thank you so much for the kind words!! getting proportions right is so hard and just takes practise, so definately keep up with it. i normally sculpt a rough head for the proportions and keep it rough, adding and taking away until it looks right in shape and then i start smoothing and building the detail into it. i used to try and put too much detail in too early and then it would always be out of proportion! good luck with you work i hope you upload it!!

thank you so much for the kind words...it makes all the work worhtwhile
I use super sculpey...i thinks its amazing. its a polymer clay and so versatile. not everyone likes it but it was a medium that as soon as i used i knew it was for me. you buy it in blocks, about £10 a block (roughly a kilogram).
it holds high detail, doesn't dry until baked and doesn't shrink so can (and often must be) put upon a wire frame. you can also 'fill sculptures with tin foil to save on clay.
